SUN Daocui

Personal Information: Sun Daocui (1988- ), male, a member of the Communist Party of China, hails from Taihe, Jiangxi Province. He is an Associate Professor of Criminal Justice and a doctoral supervisor at China University of Political Science and Law. He also serves as the Deputy Secretary-General of the Chinese Criminal Law Society, among other roles.

He has studied under two prominent figures: Mr. Gao Mingxuan, a “People’s Educator” and pioneer of criminal law in New China, and Mr. Fan Chongyi, a renowned Chinese scholar in criminal procedure law. Sun has previously engaged in teaching and research at South China University of Technology's Law School and the Criminal Law Science Research Institute of Beijing Normal University.

Main Research Directions and Fields: Sun focuses on research related to criminal law with Chinese characteristics, specializing in the integration of criminal law studies. His work emphasizes the fundamental categories and theories of Chinese criminal law, the modernization and legislation of the Chinese criminal law system, cybercrime law and AI-related criminal law, economic and digital economy-related criminal law, criminal procedure reforms, and cutting-edge topics like the leniency system for plea bargaining, modern legal aid, and criminal defense.

Courses Taught: Sun teaches several courses, including General and Special Criminal Law, Criminal Law Case Studies, Criminal Law Clinics and Criminal Defense, and Cybercrime Law.

Major Academic Achievements: Sun has published over 100 papers in core journals such as China Legal Science, Tribune of Political Science and Law, Peking University Law Journal, Global Law Review, Political Science and Law, Law Review, Modern Law Science, Contemporary Law Science, Oriental Law, Criminal Science, and Journal of National Prosecutors College. His monographs include On the Relationship Between Crime, Responsibility, and Punishment, Research on the Leniency System for Plea Bargaining, Introduction to Cybercrime Law, and Artificial Intelligence and Criminal Law: Challenges and Responses.

Major Research Projects: Sun has led several key research projects, including the 2018 National Social Science Foundation Youth Project "Criminal Law in the Era of Artificial Intelligence: Foresight and Responses" (Grant No. 18CFX041) and the 2016 Ministry of Justice Law-based Governance and Legal Theory Research Project "Legislative Responses to Cybercrime and the Transformation of Criminal Law Knowledge" (Project No. 16SFB3020).
